Tesco Groceries app for Android not far away now

I've recently spotted this article on Infinite Path:
Are big businesses missing out by putting the iPhone above Google Android?

Excerpt:
Take Tesco for example. It’s hard to avoid their TV ads promoting their iPhone app which allows people to scan barcordes to generate a shopping list and then order items. A great idea, which makes it even more shocking they are yet to launch an Android version.
It seems they’re working on it. Nick Lansley, who blogs on the supermarket’s technological endeavours, has said as much, but that was back in September and four months down the line there’s no indication of when it will be launched.
So I found out the latest news from our mobile dev team then posted this tweet:

@techfortesco Tesco Groceries app for Android not far away now. Patience, android fans, for just a few more weeks. We want it perfect.

I think that says it all - and I'll keep using my Google Nexus One as my main 'phone until at least the app has launched (colleagues keep testing me during meetings to confitm that it is still my primary phone!).

    Really looking forward to this, but i think you should ditch the Nexus One, and grab yourself a Nexus S. Then you can start pushing the NFC tech down in Falcon Way for use in store! Now that would be handy :)

    The new Tesco TV ad features a Samsung Galaxy Tab, but is it running an app or just the native site? Come on Tesco, you Home Shoppers have been using touch pads for a decade, why are only Apple users able to take advantage?

    I bought me and the wife Android phones back in October thinking that this Tesco app would arrive in the App Market any day! I can't believe Tesco has been on the verge of this for 6 months. I spend an absolute fortune in Tesco so the least Tesco could do is get this App out so my wife stops moaning at me for cheaping out and not getting the iPhone!!! Every Little helps

    am i being pedantic? "a few more weeks" from this post would be the end of Feb,

    Its now the end of March, Surely its time for an update?

    as for what somebody said about using the tag in the nexus S... I want it and I want it now.

    I think quite a few companies have been caught with their pants down with the success of the Android OS. Not everyone loves Apple. As soon as business's realise this, then the more they will see their profits rise.

    20 minutes from April. How long now for the Tesco App for Android?

    Anyone out there in TESCO to give an update??!! Every little helps. But this is a big one, which needs to be counted for the TESCO customer and also for TESCO business. From these comments TESCO can see how loyal customers they have. TESCO shouldn't let their customer down.

    Still no andriod app but time to get another iphone app out. Whats that all about when tesco mobile has itself reported more andriod phones sold vs iphone or am i missing something. update atleast please

    I have been using the Ocado (Waitrose) app for moths now. It's cool, deliveries are slick, they send you a calendar reminder you can add to your Android calendar and they price match Tesco.

    Have to say that the fact that there was glib response to actually launching an app points to how little customers are valued. Ocado do a good one but would have liked one from Tesco as it is nearer to me. I think it have been prudent for an update to have been posted.

    Come on Tesco. If Ocado can do such a good app it can't be beyond you. I currently use the Ocado app as they price match Tesco anyway but would switch to Tesco as I gain Tesco points, something Ocado don't deliver.

As this blog grows in readership - and because it carries the Tesco brand - I have had to become more careful about the sort of comments that are acceptable. The good news is that I'm a champion of free speech so please be as praising or as critical as you wish! The only comments I DON'T allow through are:

1. Comments which criticise an individual other than myself, or are critical of an organisation other than Tesco. This is simply because they cannot defend themselves so is unfair and possibly libellous. Comments about some aspect of Tesco being better/worse than another equivalent organisation are allowed as long as you start by saying "in my personal opinion.." or "I think that...". ... followed by a "...because.." and some reasoned argument.

2. Comments which are totally unrelated to the context of the original article. If I have written about a mobile app and you start complaining about the price of potatoes then your comment isn't going stay for long!

3. Advertising / web links / spam.

4. Insulting / obscene messages.
